The Kahuku Wind team is excited to be working with the local community to bring clean, renewable wind energy to the island of Oahu. Comprised of experienced wind power professionals, all of whom live and work in the State of Hawaii, the Kahuku Wind team is dedicated to bringing the benefits of wind energy to the community and preserving the island’s beautiful, natural habitat.

Kekoa Kaluhiwa 
Kekoa Kaluhiwa is Director of External Affairs. Kekoa leads First Wind’s external affairs in Hawaii which includes grassroots community outreach, interaction with policymakers at the local, state and federal levels, and collaborative efforts with stakeholders working to implement the goals of the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative.

Prior to joining First Wind, Kekoa worked with U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka for 11 years, most recently as Executive Assistant where he focused on constituent services and natural resources. Kaluhiwa graduated with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Washington. Raised in Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu, Kekoa is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools.

 
Kelly O’Brien
Kelly joined First Wind as Vice President of Business Development in Hawaii in July 2009.  She has over 18 years experience in the energy industry.  She began her career in natural gas and capacity trading and supply optimization working for the third largest shipper on the Florida Gas Transmission pipeline system.  From there, she moved to the supply side as a Manager of Gas Origination for Duke Energy Trading and Marketing.  In 1997, she joined Duke’s fledgling development group and spent the next six years developing natural gas-fired power plant projects throughout the United States and was responsible for nearly $2 billion in projects that came on-line in 2001 and 2002.  In 2005, Kelly joined FPL Energy’s wind team developing projects in several states, including a 99 MW wind farm in Minnesota that reached commercial operation fourth quarter 2006.  Before taking her current position at First Wind, Kelly worked at BP Alternative Energy for three years as a Director of Wind Power Development in the western region.  Kelly is a graduate of the University of Florida with a BS in Business Administration.

Wren Wescoatt
Wren Wescoatt is a Development Specialist. Raised on the island of Molokai, Wren attended Kamehameha Schools, received a B.A. in Communication from Stanford University and a M.A. in Education from the University of North Carolina. The founder of College Connections Hawaii, he spent the past eight years managing a statewide nonprofit organization. Wren now lives on Oahu and facilitates community outreach and communications for First Wind's new projects in Hawaii.
