The developer, owner, and operator of this proposed wind project are the same team who developed, constructed, owns and operates the Kaheawa Wind project in Maui, a wind farm that currently meets 9% of Maui's electricity needs on an annual basis. Our team works with the people of Hawaii to bring the benefits of wind energy to the islands in a way that preserves the environment for future generations. We invite you to learn about the Habitat Conservation Plan for Kaheawa Wind, which is in place to monitor and ensure that the four endangered species living near the Kaheawa wind farm: the Newell's Shearwater, Hawaiian Dark-Rumped Petrel, Nene Goose, and Hawaiian Hoary Bat are protected.
Kaheawa Wind has played a historical role in contributing to the advancement of wind power technology. In fact, Kaheawa Wind served as the site for wind turbines that were operated as part of an extensive turbine research and development effort. Valuable lessons were learned during that period, helping manufacturers make dramatic improvements to wind turbine technology. The proposed turbines for Kahuku Wind will take advantage of today's technology, and will supply Hawaii with power for years to come.
